Rolling Road Runs Like Buses
July 2006

The RA was treated to not one but two RR runs this month. Simon at Japerformance carried out the first run where the car made a very healthy 302.5bhp with the intercooler water spray on and run in 3rd gear. The next run was carried out two days later by Russ at Wallace Performance where the car made 283.2bhp minus the spray and run in 4th gear. I feel it's wise to treat RR figures with a pinch of salt so the main thing to take away is the fact the car didn't underperform either time.

Other than that I've been doing bits and pieces here and there. First up were fitting some clear front indicators as well as some head tank insulators i had machined. I then set about soldering together my Tech Edge DIY wideband lambda equipment. The LD02 display is now built which leaves the LA1 to be done next month.

Also, remember the wheels i picked up in May for £45? Well here's what they look like after a little bit of welding and powder coating. Another great result from PPS Powdercoaters in Inverurie (01467 621907).

The only other thing left to do was to try out some new ideas for my fuel rails. Being made from aluminium they are susceptible to conducting a lot of heat from the engine bay, particularly the inlet manifold. To try and combat this i have had the adaptor plates made from GF Nylon 66 (a great insulator) and also cut some inserts from the same material for the counter-bored bolt holes. I hope that these modifications will minimise heat transfer from the manifold to the rails.
