A few months back a friend asked me to develop an intercooler duct specifically for the STi 8 intercooler fitted to his MY99 Version 5 Type R.
As i sat down to draw the duct i pretty much knew what i wanted but couldn't decide how tall to make the splitter. It occurred to me that it would be useful if the height of the splitter could be adjusted to suit the scoop fitted to the car. This facility was designed into the duct and the plans given to a local engineering firm who cut two templates on their water-jet facility.
The original template was cut from 1.2mm stainless and the second from much thinner 0.5mm aluminium. Pleasingly the new design increases the ducted air passage to the intercooler by over 25%. The plan now is to get one of the ducts powder coated and fitted to Marks car for some real-life testing.
On the car front the STi was treated to an annual service at Glenburgie Subaru. Pleasingly no faults were found bar a leaky exhaust. I guess i'll just have to hurry up and get that stainless system bought! ;-)
