A Wheely Good Mod
March 2007

Inspired by the seemingly impossible challenge of fitting an aftermarket steering wheel to a post MY96 Impreza and retaining all functionality (indicator cancel, horn etc) i decided to have a go myself. The answer to the problems mentioned is the HKB boss. With this fitted my spanking new Momo Model 80 wheel bolted on and functioned without issue.

The job was so straightforward i took the wheel off moments later and wired one of the buttons to the DCCD controller. This now has the effect of locking the diff when pressed, a primitive form of launch control.

This month i also had a local exhaust fabricator weld the extra bosses into the downpipe and fitted the exhaust. Thanks go to Harvey Smith for supplying the DEI heat wrap at short notice and at an unbeatable price. A 4.5" tailpipe is a little larger than i'd have chosen myself but i don't think it looks too out of place on the car. It's certainly nice to have the Scooby burble back although with the lack of sound deadening in the RA it becomes a little intrusive on a run!
