The Devil's In The Detail
February 2008

February was an action packed month for the Scooby with the highlight being a 'demon' detail courtesy of my friend Marc. He devoted a whole weekend to giving my car a much-needed freshen up ready for 2008.

Day 1 involved a Super Snow foam bath, double bucketing the car with Meguiars Hyper Wash, drying the car, giving it a once over with Swissol paint rubber and Swissol quick detailer before double bucketing again with Meguiars Hyper Wash and a final drying session.

Day 2 saw the car machine polished using Sonus DAS Orange, Green & Blue pads and SFX-1, SFX-2 and SFX-3 Polish. The car and wheels were then waxed with Swissol Saphir before Swissol Pneu was applied to the tyres. To finish Marc polished the exhaust with Autoglym metal polish before going over the interior with Meguiars All-Purpose Cleaner and cleaning the windows with Autoglym glass-cutting polish.

The worst areas of the car were the bonnet and bumpers. Marc did a fantastic job restoring the paint on the bonnet but suggested it'd be best to have the bumpers resprayed. As luck would have it a pair of STi V bumpers came up for sale locally less than 24 hours later. These were duly purchased with the intention being to have them sprayed Feather White sometime within the next couple of months.

Earlier on in the month i successfully got the car running again following some ECU hardware troubles. Thanks to Andrew Carr for supplying a replacement A'pexi Power FC and to Andy Forrest for uploading my map to it.

Spurred on by getting the car running again i finished my alternator bracket and tensioner mechanism. These allow the alternator to be flipped and will allow more room for a revised inlet manifold later on in the year. Luckily i managed to get the alternator assembly finished and the Fuelab FPR mounted the day before the cars MOT was due. Fortunately it passed with no advisories. I celebrated by treating myself to some carbon fibre WRC-style wing mirrors.

After the MOT success i collected the battery tray i designed last month. This mounts perfectly on the N/S chassis leg and holds the battery rock steady. Unfortunately the terminals supplied were the incorrect size so i ended up machining my own. Since fitting the battery i have invested in a conditioner to look after the tiny Odyssey PC680 while i am offshore!
