June 2008
After the cars oil pump failed in May much of June was spent running the car around to ensure the crank bearings hadn't suffered any critical damage. Happily the car seems to be running well enough although boost control in 5th gear seems to have gone out of the window! Hopefully this will be resolved during my next mapping visit to Andy Forrest in September.
I also happened across a set of part-worn 18" R888 tyres that were too cheap to pass up, my intention being to see if a friend (who runs this size of tyre on his Evo) wanted them. However, i thought i'd have a quick look around to see if there were any cheap Subaru 18" wheels available first. Luckily i found a set of 18" P1-WRC wheels for sale in Edinburgh! These were collected and a trial fitment revealed no clearance issues with the AP 6-pots. :-)
As the wheels had been subject to a dodgy matt black paint job they were dropped off at PPS Powdercoaters in Inverurie to be refurbished in silver. New centre caps where bought from Subaru for a bargain £20 to finish the job off. On the whole i'm pretty impressed with the results, the only downside is that they're bloody heavy!
In preparation for fitting the EJ257 2.5l engine i bought a baffled sump. The advertisement for the sump showed a custom aluminium baffle. However, when the sump arrived it came fitted with a very poorly manufactured mild steel baffle. Needless to say this was sent back and a replacement ordered. The pictures show the (lack of) quality of the first sump, beware of eBay!
