HSC Round 6: Alford Sprint
July 2008

With Round 1 of the PR Highland Speed Championship being cancelled, the cars oil pump failing at Rounds 2 and 3 and my being offshore for Rounds 4 and 5, Round 6 was to be my first full event. Run on the sprint track at the Grampian Transport Museum the single round ran over the full weekend rather than a round each day like in previous years.

The car ran faultlessly all weekend with the biggest disappointment being the unsettled weather. Due to rain showers i ended up with 3 dry runs and 3 wet runs over the course of the weekend. Wet or dry, every time i went out i went quicker, my best time of the weekend being 60.00 seconds dead. Thanks go to John Stewart for the action shots, click the link to see more great photographs of the event.

After a weekends motorsport it was back down to earth on Tuesday and Wednesday as i volunteered to do some 'real' work in the office. This meant the car got treated to a quick wash so as not to look too shabby in the work car park - at least 2x Aston Martins present at the last count!

Work on the alternator is still ongoing. Although it's now charging the battery it's not quite making 14V at idle. I did some sums and got Chris at CDF Racing to machine me a standard-diameter (130mm) aluminium pulley to replace my current under-driven (100mm dia.) one. We managed to keep the weight of the pulley down by machining off the A/C belt take-off on the rear. It's gone for anodising now but should be fitted next month.

Due to the weight of the 18" Prodrive wheels and the fact the white 17" Speedline wheels need spacers to clear the brakes i bought a set of 17" OZ Superleggeras that came up for sale this month. They are relatively light and clear the brake calipers, however they are only a 7J rim and one wheel is pretty badly beaten up so i'm not yet sure if these will make it onto the car or not.
