October 2008

...well not quite, but hopefully soon. Over the past few months i've been collecting some of the bits and pieces required for a nice 2.5litre engine installation. I showed you the sump last month, i've also collected the short block, some CP Pistons, a Kevlar timing belt and some new 'Hardrace' engine mounts. I also picked up some early steel timing pulleys and had them electroless nickel-plated locally to tidy them up. A clutch, gaskets and possibly some rods/bearings are also needed prior to the final installation.

Since installing the air filter heat shield i have struggled to get the temperature of the air within the shielded area back down to ambient following a period of heat soak. I spoke to the guys at ETS Racing and they supplied me with a bonnet duct that i felt could be modified to fit my purpose. I roughly cut away part of the rain shield beneath the duct in order to try and duct some air onto the air filter and into the shielded cavity. A quick trial revealed encouraging results with the air temperature dropping much more quickly once the car is up to speed, more on this next month!
