Aberdeen Scoobs Ingliston Sprint
April 2009

The highlight of a busy April for me was a non-competitive sprint organised by the guys at Aberdeen Scoobies. Seeing as i'd never driven on the circuit at Ingliston before i jumped at the chance of going and spent a couple of days prior to the event preparing my car.

With a car full of annoying niggles i divided the problems into 'front' and 'back' and spent the best part of a day working on each...

The first job at the front end was to tie off the re-routed hose from the catch tank to the gearbox properly using a p-clip. The arch liners, which were only just hanging on with the few remaining fasteners, were then removed. This exposed the airbag sensors and wiring. Seeing as these have been redundant since i fitted the Momo steering wheel i decided to remove the sensors, wiring and ECU, 2 kilos saved! :-)

At the back the snapped rear wheel stud was replaced before some new open-ended steel wheel nuts were fitted, these weigh 26g each, the same as standard wheel nuts. Next a small leak in the exhaust was sealed up before the rear bumper was removed to allow a blown rear number plate lamp to be replaced. The new rear bumper was fitted before the fog light was relocated to the O/S reverse lamp using a red-LED bulb. The last thing to do was to fit some foam beneath the newly located fire extinguisher. There, all ready for some fun!

After all the effort put into fixing silly little jobs i'm pleased to say the car performed faultlessly at Ingliston, achieving the quickest lap of the day against 13 other Subarus with a time of 1:07:26. I was convinced there was more time left in both the car and driver so really went for it on my last lap. However, i severely over-cooked the final corner, spun and only missed a barrier by the narrowest of margins! Thanks to all the guys at Aberdeen Scoobies for organising a cracking event, i can't wait for the next one!
