Stuttgart Surprise
January 2010

WIth no sign of a Litchfield Mk2 Type-25 Spec C becoming available in the near future i decided to look at alternative cars with similar performance. I consdered the E46 M3 CSL, Noble M12, Impreza Spec C Type RA-R, Audi RS4, Lotus Exige S and even a new-shape JDM Impreza STi. However, one car that appealed above all others was the Porsche 911 GT3.

There were two suitable cars available at the time, one of which was in Aberdeen, a silver 996 Mk2 GT3 with ceramic composite brakes (PCCB). The weather was terrible for the test drive but the cars straight line performance and the howl from the flat six convinced me i had to own one. More so sooner rather than later to avoid the mid-life crisis cliche!

The other suitable car that was available was a blue 996 MK2 GT3 in Clubsport specification (Recaro buckets & scaffolding) and also with the PCCB upgrade. This car was in London but in the more desireable specification and with 15,000 fewer miles i deemed it worth the journey.

So on the 27th of January i got up at the crack of dawn to fly down to London and collect the car. Unfortunately on the way home i reversed into a rather sizeable kerb which has marked the rear bumper and will have to be repaired. Other than that i have been using the car as the weather permits and i am looking forward to the weather warming up so i can see how it really goes round corners... hopefully the way i want it to, i.e. not backwards!

Subaru-wise my intention is to sell my Cavalier Turbo and buy an Impreza that i can use as a test bed and for commuting when necessary. So far i have only narrowed it down as a far as a Newage model. I'll have to see how many pennies are in the piggy bank when the time comes!
