Reverse Alternator Bracket
Subaru Impreza
Subaru Impreza
The reverse alternator bracket is designed to allow the reorientation of the existing Subaru alternator or the fitment of a lightweight Denso alternator in a non-standard position.
The bracket is not a comprehensive solution to allow rotation of the inlet manifold, some additional work may be required in order to gain necessary clearance for front-entry pipework. E.g. the pipework may need to be angled so that it is not perpendicular to the manifold or narrower steel/aluminium pipe may need to be used instead of thicker wall silicone hose.
Installation & Tensioner Mechanisms
The bracket picks up on existing bolt holes in the cars engine and cylinder head casings in order to provide secure location. A convention turnbuckle-type alternator tensioner mechanism is included although a female spherical bearing is included in order to allow a much shorter tensioner arm to be made up should it be necessary for clearance reasons.
Longitudal Adjustment
A clever feature of the bracket is its ability to facilitate longitudal adjustment of the alternator in order to ensure a perfect belt-run every time. This adjustment is carried out by slackening the screws that secure the 'knuckle' part of the bracket and sliding this section backwards and forwards while the base plate remains bolted to the cars engine. However, two marker lines have been cut into the base plate as reference points for initial installation, one for the OEM alternator and one for the Denso alternator.
Belt / Idler
No alternative drive belt or idler pulley is included in the kit. The alternative drive belt is best procured depending on the result of your final installation, guidance is given on the best way to identify the belt you require in the Installation Guide.
What's Inside
Included with each bracket are the following parts:
The small alternator available from Denso is a great way of saving around 2.4kg of weight from your Impreza. There are several sources for such an alternator:
Brise are able to supply a wiring plug and tail for the Denso alternator. Their website also details the wiring required in order to get the alternator to function.
